Livre en poche (paper book fair) in Gradignan: 7-9 October 2022

Participation of Mathias Enard, Denis Lachaud, Alexandre Civico, Sophie Refle, Magyd Cherfi, Laurent Tillon.

Created in 2005, Lire en Poche has established itself as the back-to-school literary fair in pocket format.

Even if it does not exclude novelties in large format from guest authors, it first highlights the small format, in all its diversity and modernity – a sector which today represents a quarter of sales in bookstores.

A unique municipal initiative within a commune of the Bordeaux metropolis, the event is held on the second weekend of October in the heart of lush greenery – the Parc de Mandavit, and takes over not only the Théâtre des Quatre Saisons, the Jean-Vautrin Media Library, and a village of tents on the lawn of the Park, but also spreads to many neighboring towns through numerous partnerships with school, cultural or social structures.

Reading in Pocket means 27,000 visitors over 3 days, 100 guest authors each year – including around fifteen foreigners, and around thirty children’s authors. On the school side, there are more than a hundred meetings with authors in classes, i.e. nearly 3,000 students from kindergarten to high school involved in the programming.

Lire en Poche are 11 independent bookstores presenting all the pocket collections – i.e. an area of 1,500 m2 of stands, three days of continuous meetings with authors, literary breakfasts, readings, performing arts, workshops for all audiences including toddlers, exhibitions, games, concerts…

Admission and access to all activities (including school) are free.
