Great walk in Bouliac-Latresne: GR Bordeaux Métropole

In partnership with the French Federation of Hiking, the “Bucle Verte” (Green Loop) – discovery circuit of the Bordeaux conurbation – becomes the first metropolitan GR® in France in June 2019.

This 160 km marked long-distance hiking route over 17 municipalities connects the main natural spaces and urban parks, offering walkers unique viewpoints over the landscapes of the agglomeration.

The more adventurous can stop for an unusual night in one of the Suburban Refuges (Refuges périurbains) along the route. Please note, these inhabitable artworks are very popular and require a reservation.

This Sunday, October 9, I took part in the walk organized by Bordeaux Métropole: discovery of the last section of the entire route: about 7km between the municipalities of Bouliac and Latresne.

With an Indian summer weather (25-28 degrees) we set off from the Saint-Siméon church in Bouliac.

With its abundant sculpted decoration where good and evil bith show, this 12th century church is a real jewel of Romanesque art. Located on the former site of an old Gallo-Roman oratory renowned as a place of miracles in the 6th century, the church has been restored several times, as its bell tower indicates….resolutely 19th century! The nave and its chevet, fortified in the 14th century, have remained in their original state. Outside, on the esplanade to the west of the church, the view of the Garonne and Bordeaux is unique. You an visit this church every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 1 place Chevelaure – 33270 Bouliac
